Top 10: Reasons Why Zadar Is THE Place To Visit Right Now

Updated: Jan 24, 2019

You're probably well aware by now of the delights that Croatia has to offer: dazzling Dubrovnik, the party island of Hvar and summer weekend breaks in Split. However, believe it or not, there's still some of this fascinating country that's slipped under the tourism radar. In fact, I was in two minds as to whether to mention this place or not, because its relatively untouched state truly is a peace of paradise for the regular traveller weary of weaving around umbrella-led groups. The thing is though, some things are just too good not to share – and the city and region of Zadar deserves every ounce of awe coming its way from travellers yet to discover its wonders. Here's a little Top 10 taster to tell you why Zadar is the place to visit right now:

1. IT'S THE GATEWAY TO ISLAND PARADISE: AN ENTIRE ARCHIPELAGO AWAITS

2. IT HAS AN ARRAY OF ARCHITECTURE TO PLEASE EVEN THE PICKIEST HISTORIAN'S PALATE

3. YOU CAN BE LULLED BY THE SOUNDS OF A SEA-POWERED ORGAN. SERIOUSLY.

4. AND YOU CAN DANCE ACROSS A SOLAR-POWERED DISCO FLOOR (OK, IT'S ACTUALLY A WORK OF ART, BUT IT CAN BE YOUR DANCEFLOOR AFTER A FEW CROATIAN WINES)

5. SPEAKING OF WINE, ZADAR HAS PLENTY OF CROATIA'S BEST ON THE DOORSTEP

6. IT ALSO HAS SOME OF THE BEST BEACHES IN THE COUNTRY, TOO

7. THE CITY IS PERFECTLY POSITIONED TO EXPLORE THE SURROUNDING REGIONS

8. EVEN WATERFALLS ARE ONLY A STONE'S THROW AWAY (OK, MORE LIKE 1 HR, BUT STILL)

9. THE CHEESE FROM NEARBY PAG ISLAND IS GOOD ENOUGH TO TURN THE HEAD OF EVEN THE MOST DIEHARD CHEDDAR FAN. AND THE BAKERIES AND MARKET PRODUCE AREN'T BAD EITHER (IF 'NOT BAD' MEANS REALLY AWESOME)

10. YOU CAN STILL HAVE IT (ALMOST) ALL TO YOURSELF. THE MASSES AREN'T HERE...YET
